Pace Session Devotion: Live Still

by | Dec 2, 2015 | DEVOTIONS

Every time I read the story of Mary and Martha I so wish I could relate more to the heart of Mary, but so often find myself in the eyes of Martha. Not that Martha was a bad person or doing bad things, but there’s no doubt Mary chose better that day.

It’s possible to be doing all the good things and missing all the better things right before our eyes – even right in our own homes.

This season of thanks and giving can quickly turn to hurried living and leave us in the same place as Martha. Too busy to notice or appreciate the greatest present ever given – God’s presence. Immanuel. God with us.

He came. He left. But He didn’t leave us alone. And today I hear Him saying, “Meredith, Meredith, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary – choose Me. Choose the good portion. Then you will have done the only thing you need do.”

Sweet Sister, could it be He is saying the same to you? Could it be you, too, are anxious, troubled or distracted, when the very presence of God is the greatest present you are taking for granted? I want to choose better this Advent season.

I want to live expectant for the miracles I’m praying for, knowing the same power that birthed Jesus from heaven to here can birth the miracles I so long to see happen. I want to sit next to my Savior, instead of running circles around Him in an effort to please Him, when He’s asking me to stop and stay.

We aren’t in a race against God or time or God’s time, because His time is always right. He isn’t looking for us to out pace Him, He’s longing for us to stay with Him. This Advent season, I want to LIVE STILL instead of still living the same. Don’t you?

Go Deeper: Luke 10:38-42.

This devotion is one of many that are part of our Pace Session. To find all the Pace Session Devotions, please click here. If they have, will you share in comments with us?

Meredith Bernard is a perfectly imperfect Daughter of the King, wife to her cattle man and “Mama” to two littles. After leaving a career in corporate sales, she now pursues the passion God has given her to be a SAHM and photographer, offering encouragement through her Lens and her Pen. She invites you to follow along with her grace-filled (not necessarily graceful) motherhood mishaps, days raking hay, chasing cows and kids on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
