Prayer Devotion: God is Our Ever-Present Help
So often in my helpless estate, I forget I have help readily available. The days I wallow in self-pity because there’s no one to sympathize—I have help. The days I lose my patience and then my temper for the umpteenth time—I have help. The days I’m ready to give up on my dreams and myself—I have help.
The help we have at our disposal isn’t something we can create within us—it’s Someone who lives within us. The Lord is our Help and He comes when His children call, because He loves us that much. When all we can muster from the carpool line or kitchen sink or bedside is a quiet and tearful, “Lord, Help me…,” that’s all He needs to hear.
Do you sense Him pulling you close? He wants you near.
He wants to help you stand when you are falling. He wants to exchange your weary soul for a glad heart. He wants to be your dance partner when the mourning ends—and it will end. In His presence is fullness of joy and eventually mourning always gives way to morning. Dark always gives way to light.
When help seems far off, remember He’s really not. He’s only a heart’s cry away. “Lord, You are my Help.”
