OUR ONE THING

by: Meredith Bernard

“The life pleasing to God is not a series of religious duties. We have only one thing to do, namely, to experience a life of relationship and intimacy with God.” Richard J. Foster, Celebration of Discipline

Daughter, I see you striving in My name. I see it, all of it, but it’s not the reason I love you. You’ve bought the age-old lie that “practice makes perfect.” You believe by practicing your faith through all the “good things” you do, that maybe one day you’ll actually get it perfect.

Don’t you see? I am perfecting you. You are already righteous because I am in you. The righteous shall live by faith, even in imperfection.

You can stop striving alone. You can stop just doing for me. I invite you to start doing WITH me. It is the doing through abiding IN Me, that I can do something through you.

Oh, how I long for your striving to alter to abiding. Oh, how I long for you to practice one thing and one thing only—that you would take time from your “good things” to sit a while with Me.

Let me fill you. Let me know you. Let me grow you. Let me love on you, so I can love through you. Then the only thing left to practice will be My love. {Gal. 3:10-12; John 15}
