Prayer Devotion: To Seek God First
When the decision is out of your hands and you deeply desire it or desperately need it to be in your favor, the feeling of powerlessness can be overwhelming. You are not powerless when you are God’s. You can seek first His kingdom. Do you know what that really means?
It means that you can ask your Abba Father, the One in authority above all authority and who sits on the throne above every other, to have His way in them. It means you can ask your Daddy, the One who can rebuke the wind and still the waves with a, “Hush,” to be the Lord over their decision and influence their heart.
But in that place remember you can pray. Knowing what to pray to the Difference-Maker can make all the difference. You can pray, “Will you speak to them Lord? Will you show me favor? Will you be the influence over their heart in this decision? Will you have Your way in this situation? You are the Lord of lords and the King of kings, and seated on the throne above all thrones. Nevertheless, Your will.”
God is the one who is the Authority above all authority. He is the Lord above all lords and King above all kings. He is seated on the throne above all thrones. And because of He is and because we are His, we can ask Him to be the holy influence over their heart.
Seek first the kingdom means to desire more than anything else, God’s rule—both in the world and the hearts of men and women—but especially of our hearts. And when we do, all the other things we need will be given to us.
In everything we do, in everything we face, in everyone we meet, and everywhere we step—through prayer and how we live—let us take our stand and demand God’s Kingship. Let us continually pray and ask God for His rule over our hearts first and His lordship over our lives, our families, our ministries, our homes, our businesses, our cities, our states, our nations, and our world.
