Alignment Series Part 2: How Do You Renew Your Mind?
Hello there! I hope you were encouraged by what I shared in the video. There’s more in this article, because I believe one of the most influential and life-altering things we can do is renew our minds. Romans 12:2 is not without promise. It says, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
Do you ever find yourself asking, “How?” We often know what we are supposed to do, but do you ever feel stuck wondering how to actually do it, and what steps to take? An important first step is to ask two really good questions. When the Bible gives us a directive ask, what is my part and what is God’s part? I don’t know one time when God asks us to do something that He didn’t promise something in return.
Do Not Be Conformed
This is our part. We are all being shaped by something or someone. People we know, teachers we listen to, books we read, media we view. That’s not the question. The question is, are you aware of what’s shaping you? Are you conforming to the world without even realizing it? What is it that you believe? Why do you believe what you believe? Does it line up with what the Bible says? Once you become aware, you can be intentional about what and who you allow to influence you.
Renew Your Mind
This happens in partnership with God. Because the Holy Spirit teaches us the truth, He helps us identify the thought patterns and mindsets that are not conformed to His. As we seek God and study His Word, He reveals to us the truth that will help us think like God thinks. Remember, we have the mind of Christ. He also gives us the direction, grace, wisdom, strength, power, and authority we need to take captive every thought and tear strongholds down.
Transformation is not something we do, it is a work of God’s Spirit and His Word. The literal translation of the word transformation is changed after being with. We are transformed after being with God. We can exhaust ourselves trying to change ourselves and others. But true transformation, the kind we really want, being transformed into the image God created us for, does not happen because we will it to or try to make it happen. It is a result of spending time with God and it is a result of a mind made new by truth.
How do you renew your mind?
Conform to God’s truth. Partner with God to allow His truth to change your thinking. Give God full permission to transform you. One of the best decisions you can make is to give God full access to every part of you to come into alignment with who He created you to be.
Believing with you,
