Yesterday I was unsure about a devotion I had planned, about us tending our souls, that I didn’t end up publishing. I was struggling over the words and I prayed, Lord, I’m pulling words from my mind. Your daughters don’t need more of me, they need more of You. I want the words to come from You.

It was just a few minutes later the whisper came. “It is the Holy Spirit who tends your soul.” Once again, I was striving in my own strength. The rest of the morning the Lord reminded me over and over about the Holy Spirit and why He was given to us.

The Holy Spirit is our comforter and counselor. He is the One who teaches us and leads us into all truth. He is the One who is gentle with us, yet provides us with the boldness and strength to live out our call to follow Jesus and point others to Him. He is our living water. He is the One who does the inner work of transformation to prepare us for the work God’s called us to.

Let us remember Him. There is a work of tending our souls we try to do that only He can, and cares for us even more tenderly than we often do for ourselves.
