OUR HOME IN GOD

by: Michele-Lyn Ault

Peaceful. Loving. Joyful. Grace-filled. Restful. Life-giving.

These are words that describe the home I prayed to have, really cried to have for years. I tried so hard to make it happen. “Why is it so chaotic? How do I achieve peace, Lord? Why is there so much strife and frustration? How do I achieve joy, Lord? Why is there so much division? How do I make unity, Lord? I want Your love here.”

But I had it wrong. It is less about trying, and more about abiding. “You cannot bear fruit unless you are joined with Me.” {John 15:5} Fruit. It is the fruit of the Spirit I long to see borne in my home. There’s only one way — dwell in Him.

“Jesus invites us to make our home in Him. He offers us welcome and profound acceptance way beyond the state of our four walls or our carpets. And He promises to abide with us. If we can only take our eyes off ourselves for a moment to catch a glimpse of the glorious invitation to make our home in Him.” — Lisa-Jo Baker

We make our home in Him. And He makes His home in us.

Let it be so, Lord.
