TRANSFORMED PASSIONS

by: Michele-Lyn Ault

“To ask rightly involves transformed passions. In prayer, real prayer, we begin to think God’s thoughts after Him; to desire the things He desires, to love the things He loves, to will the things He wills.” — Richard J. Foster

When we think God’s thoughts after Him, we begin to desire the things He does. To ask rightly involves passions that have been refined, and a mind that has been renewed. We can know God’s desires and thoughts, and pray according to them.

We have the mind of Christ. {1 Corinthians 2:16}
We have the Spirit of God. {1 Corinthians 2:11-13}

For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us.
